The doctor does a review of medical history, in which they will seek to know whether you have had skin disorders or are using any medications at the time. They also discuss benefits and risks of the treatment.

Before treatment, one is expected to stay away from the sun. The doctor usually gives instructions as regards how one should keep away from the sun. In most cases, exposure is supposed to be avoided for some six weeks before treatment. It is a requirement that one shaves and trims the treatment area on the day before treatment. In addition, you will be advised against using other removal methods like waxing, plucking and electrolysis.

For the procedure, the doctor will press a laser instrument against your skin. There might be the need to use a cooling device for protection of the skin and to avoid side effects. Small areas can be treated in minutes while larger areas will take an hour or more.

There could be redness and swelling for a while after treatment. Application of ice on the affected areas will reduce discomfort. The hairs will be lost gradually.
