Tips For Creating Memorable Wedding Candelabra Centerpieces

By Kenneth Hamilton

When you are planning your wedding reception you want everything to be perfect. Everything from the flowers to the food and entertainment have to be just right. If you intend to have a formal reception, with food and drink, you have to decide on more than just the menu. The linens and place settings, and the centerpieces, should set the right tone. If you are planning on candelabra centerpieces, for instance, you need to consider your theme, the venue, the table configurations, and what elements you are going to add to make them memorable.

A theme is important when you are decorating a large event room. This is what pulls the room into a cohesive unit. You can tie your reception theme in with your wedding theme or have a seasonal style reception. Candelabras appropriate for rustic receptions won't be at all appropriate for something as formal as a Victorian themed reception.

You have to consider the venue you are using. The venue may have regulations against guests using any materials that involve breakable glass or flame. You need to know about this from the beginning so you don't end up having to reconfigure your reception design because the candelabras aren't compatible with the venue's regulations. There are easy alternatives, such as battery operated candles, you can use with great effect.

You must consider the size and configuration of your tables. If your layout includes a long table for you, the groom, and your immediate families with smaller tables for the guests, you will need more than one size centerpiece. You might have multiple candelabras at the main table with smaller versions gracing the guest tables.

Most brides want flowers to be incorporated into their centerpieces in some way. If you are planning on adding floral touches, you must decide between fresh and silk. There is nothing like fresh flowers, but they can be costly, especially if you're decorating a number of tables. Fresh flowers may not last through the reception without starting to wilt.

Thinking outside the box is not a bad thing, and if you are open to ideas, foregoing the floral aspect totally might be interesting. Instead of flowers you might consider something like fresh vegetables or fruit to make colorful and unusual arrangements that will last through the evening and be something your guests won't be expecting.

If you do something really imaginative and unexpected, your guests will notice and remember. When you have your heart set on flowers as part of your table design, consider adding some unusual and decorative elements. Branches, stones, seashells, or feathers are good examples of added touches that will impress your guests. Don't think all the candelabras must match exactly. As long as they have something in common with one another, a distinctive look at each table can be very effective.

There are many ways you can make your wedding reception a memorable event. You don't have to spend a fortune on elaborate centerpieces. With some imagination and creativity you can create an event people will be talking about for a long time.
