By Patrick Robinson

CPR, which stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is a technique of combining rescue breathing which is known as mouth-to-mouth and chest compression to administer to individuals who have either stopped breathing or aren't circulating blood properly and adequately, it is one of the most essential life-saving skills that a person can have. Classes are conducted by many health care facilities and other government organizations and companies. Some of these places only offer basic training while others offer both basic and advanced classes. Depending on your needs and economic restraints, you can choose the type of course you want to do regarding CPR classes Houston TX

Basic training requires only around five to six hours of classes. A couple more hours added to this completes your advance training too. Though there are plenty of courses available, it is advisable to choose the one conducted by the American Heart Association and American Red Cross as they are well known. In case there are no sessions conducted by these organizations in your locality, you can choose another reputable course to do your training from.

After these initial phases, a CPR class will focus on the maneuvers which make up the cardio-pulmonary resuscitation protocol. The number of chest compressions and artificial respiration maneuvers needed to be performed has changed several times in the past, but current regulations include cycles of 30 chest compressions and 2 artificial breaths.

In order to help participants get used to the maneuvers needed to be performed, instructors used specially designed mannequins. These mannequins have a special button indicating if the rescuer is pressing hard enough (approximately 5 cm) and a small bag that inflates if the rescuer is exhaling enough air into the mannequin.

After you have learned the theoretical part, instructors will show you how to perform the maneuvers on mannequins and they will make sure you are pushing hard and fast enough.By practicing on mannequins the moves will become a reflex and if you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to perform CPR, you will know what to do, without thinking too much about it.

Determine your specific requirements before you enroll into such a class. It may be a good idea to first join the basic course and then move on to the advanced one. This will make it easy for you to grasp the techniques involved.

After administration of CPR, if the victim regains consciousness, it is still recommended that he is checked by a doctor. It is up to the doctor to ascertain whether he is normal and requires no more medical treatment.

The internet has become a very convenient means of attending a CPR class. Well known institutions offer training through the online medium. Online classes are usually free or cost or have a minimal fee. Online training is convenient especially if you have a full-time job as you can complete the course in your own time and at your own convenience. If you want, you can opt for evening or weekend classes too.
