Effective Solutions For Tattoo Cover Up

By Edward Cook

Getting inked is a major decision that requires a lot of commitment. Once completed, a tattoo cannot be removed without some pain and also money, as well as time. However, sometimes it is necessary to hide it from the general public. Here are some ideas on achieve a good tattoo cover up, ranging in effectiveness and also affordability.

Some people get tattoos very spontaneously, which isn't always the best idea. Because of this, sometimes a piece of artwork ends up somewhere on the body that is very visible and hinders a person's everyday activities. Visible tattoos can be a problem in a work environment, or they could be unsightly to others such as friends or family. Some tattoos may even cause offense, or simply not be appropriate for specific settings, like a wedding.

The most efficient way to hide tattoos will be dependent on the placement or size of said artwork, and its density. It may simply be a case of using clothing or hair to hide the piece. This is very easy and costs nothing at all, used whenever necessary or until full removal becomes an option.

Many makeup brands sell specialty products for concealing things like tattoos or acne or other imperfections on the skin. They contain a high amount of pigment in order to effective conceal darker marks. It's always a good idea to use these products sparingly and build the layers you need gradually until you get the result you want, instead of putting it all on at once in one thick layer.

One of the best known brands for concealing marks, pigmentation or tattoos on the skin is Dermablend. While the brand specializes in makeup for this very purpose, there is a separate product called the Leg and Body Cover, which provides medium to full coverage for more than half the day. While this particular product is smear and waterproof, other brands may require additional setting in order to not rub off during the course of the day.

Dermablend is on the higher end of the price range for concealers, but it gets the job done. A little less expensive is the Kat Von D makeup brand, by former tattoo artist by the same name. Who better to know about concealing tattoos? The Lock-It concealer is a top-rated product, both highly pigmented and oil-free.

Not all concealers for this job are expensive. There are some drugstore brands with products that work just as effectively, such as the maximum coverage, oil-free bestseller by E. L. F., which costs only three dollars. Hard Candy also has a Glamouflage Concealer for six dollars, which comes with a second product - a pencil in the corresponding shade for outlining the tattoo before concealing.

Putting makeup over a tattoo is great for occasional or short-term needs. It works particularly well when the wearer doesn't actually want to get rid of the artwork. In other cases, though, where some ink may actually be a regret, one of the best ways to cover up said piece is to turn it into something completely new by tattooing an awesome new piece over it to either cover it completely or incorporate it into a new design!
