What Are The Advantages And Cons Of Instant Tan Spray

By Haywood Hunter

In many parts of the western world, having some color is synonymous with looking healthier. Ironically enough though, laying out and having the UV rays directly hit the skin is extremely bad for ones health and can lead to cancer. So there are some that opt for instant tan spray as to get look and stay healthy. There are many advantages and disadvantages to getting a spray tan done though.

By heading to the beach or tanning bed, one needs to think about their health and different risks that the UV rays may cause. There is little protection from the sun when sitting directly under it, and this can eventually lead to skin cancer. Many opt to go for this option that is done in a booth in a salon, far enough away from the UV rays and the consequences they have on the body. Their skin does not get nearly as damaged, and will keep the skin looking healthy longer. All too often there are people who have enjoyed the sun a bit too much leaving their skin with leather looking texture.

Another major advantage of going the this route is that one can walk in pasty and walk out with beautiful color. More often than not, a large majority love instant gratification, and that is exactly what this is. If there is an upcoming party, wedding, or outing, this is a quick and easy solution to getting tan.

Like so many things in life, there is also a down side. The chemical that is used in the spray is called dihdroxyacetone, DHA. This is only applied to the surface of the skin and has been FDA approved. But be weary. There may still be side effects and reactions. It might be a good idea to check in with the doctor first and see what he or she has to say about this. By getting it in the eyes, on the lips, or accidentally inhaled, there may be reactions.

Because this chemical is only on the surface of the skin though, it sheds off with the dead skin cells making it necessary to get this done every few days if one wants to retain the color. For those that exfoliate on a daily basis, the life span of the color might even be shortened more. Still though, it will last longer than what the tinted lotions do. Depending on if a professional does this or if it is done in a booth, it can be an expensive upkeep and not much of an investment.

Another disadvantage about getting this done is that it can stain clothes, hair, bedding, and hands. It is recommended that one waits at least twenty minutes after the spray before putting on clothes, and washing the hands thoroughly with soap and water after having contact with the spray.

This spray does not protect the skin from the UV rays, so it is of utmost importance that one keeps the sunscreen, sunglasses, and head coverings nearby. And if at all possible, try and stay in the shade and hydrated. Just because one has a tan, does not mean that they are protected from the sun.

The instant tan spray is not for everyone, but may be the answer for others. It really depends on how important it is to be tan, and at what cost, both financially and health wise. Write down the pros and cons, and go from there. Best of luck and enjoy the weather.
